  • Hi Barb,

The huntboard arrived last night, safe and sound- and fantastic! It is wonderful. In my most nit-picky mood I couldn't find a fault: this is a rare example of something being even better than it looked online (and you can imagine the grief I got for buying furniture off the internet, from a unfamiliar company, without even seeing it).

The corners are just the way I like them. The drawers are open and close smoothly: tight enough that they don't wobble, but loose enough that they glide open. The wood is beautifully finished, and cuts the difference between highly polished formal and rustic farmhouse furniture perfectly. It does in fact look like something that has been around for a while- in a good way.

    Thanks for exceeding my expectations!

  • Hello Jane,
It took a little while to receive my photos, but I wanted to pass along the finished design for the Sanchez dining room. The family is so happy with their table and it looks beautiful in the room! I look forward to working with you again in the future.
Happy New Year and I wish you a prosperous 2013!

  • Hi Jane,

Not sure if you remember us or not - last year at this time you were putting the final touches on our island. We're the ones you did the pumpkin colored island for! It's great and we love it!

Friends of ours are in the midst of making their own and would like to know what you used to seal the top of the island. If you could so kindly let us know that would be greatly appreciated.

    Hope all is well!

    Thanks!

  • Janey & Barb,

Bryan and his helper came while I was here with my carpenter Mattie. Right away Brian
said the desk wouldn't go through the up stairs office door. He then remeasured the desk
and window and said it couldn't fit through the window! The desk was then placed on it's
side in the garage. Mattie, like a surgeon took off all the feet and labeled them. Next, with
all 4 of us helping, the crank out window was removed on the 2nd floor. The desk was then
placed on the back of Bryan's truck lift and raised about 5 feet. A ladder was then blanketed
with a movers blanket and all 4 of us pushed the desk onto blanketed staging Bryan set up
on top of his truck. Once the desk reached the top of the truck it was then pushed up another
ladder to the window opening. The desk was gently slid through the window opening with
a n 1/8th inch to spare on both sides! Not 1 scratch occurred during the whole process! Lastly,
the feet were screwed and glued back on! The book shelf was a piece of cake.

I just want to thank you for a an excellent job well done! The process was a long journey but
I'm here to tell you it was worth it! Karen, will send some photo's. Yep, GRAND SLAM!

  • Thank you Barb.

FYI, over the last 8 months during our major home renovation, I've done business with dozens of companies. Now that the end is near, I must say Lake and Mountain Home ranks up there in my top 3 for customer service. I'm sure when we see the table, we will be equally pleased with the quality and workmanship that used to be identified in the phrase "MADE IN AMERICA"!
I'll provide you with additional feedback after table is delivered.
I am hoping to bring this message, our home and your table to the attention of the folks at Southern Living!

    Many thanks,
    Cheryl

  • It’s About A Vision
    May 2012

It’s the hub of our family. It’s where we meet at least three times a day. New ideas are discussed and old ones rehashed. It’s covered with homeschool books, math manipulatives, science projects, and greasy finger prints. It’s our dining table.

So what’s the big deal about a dining table? Well, nothing unless the family has out grown it. We started with an antique game table. It was 3’ by 3’ with two 1’ breadboard extensions and four massively thick table legs that were always in the way when we tried to use the six chairs. So with our growing family, we needed a bigger table. We knew more about what we didn’t want than what we did.

Then there was my vision. I grew up with a holiday table overflowing with at least four generations of relatives. Most of those people are gone now, and the family has dwindled. Alan’s side of the family is also scant. To complicate things, we live far away from the rest of our families. When we started our family, I had a vision of a huge holiday table overflowing with our children, their spouses, and their children. Our family table wasn’t big enough for our everyday use, much less my vision.

So began the search. After much looking through stores and on the internet, we finally came to the conclusion that we’d have to have a table custom made. We wanted it to be rustic enough for everyday use and yet nice enough to be dressed up; just the right size for meals and homeschooling, with extensions for years down the line when we welcome sons- and daughters-in-laws. The table legs could not be in the way, and the chairs had to be comfortable so people would want to linger and talk or play games in front of the fireplace.

Finally we found the perfect source for our table and chairs. We talked with Jane from Lake&Mountainhome, a company out of Massachusetts. Jane listened to our needs and concerns and talked with us about our ideas. She patiently made suggestions and then waited for us to make decisions. We selected a trestle table made from thick slabs of reclaimed oak barn wood, and we specified the degree of smoothness and a brown cherry finish. We asked that it be 7’ long and 42” wide with two 18” breadboard extensions. We added 12 fan-back chairs in a matching finish. Then we settled in to wait while Jane and her staff went to work. Two and a half months later the crate arrived. After days of rearranging furniture, unpacking boxes, and everyone helping put the table together, it was finally in place and it’s perfect! Part of a vision fulfilled. Just in time for our first holiday meal…Easter! A celebration of new beginnings. Some of our family use the chairs, others require booster seats, and still others are in highchairs, or, my favorite, Daddy’s lap. One day the vision will be complete; the extensions will be on and all the chairs will be filled. Who knows, we may still need that antique game table for an overflow table. It’s a table on which we can make new traditions and celebrate old ones. A table to grow on and with.

  • Hi Jane,

Hooray! We hired someone with a drill to put the screws in yesterday. Table looks great. We did find all the A's and the B's and they were mixed up but all is well now. Thank you so much for all you did to make this work out! You have been wonderful and kind and gracious.

And now....that we have the table and the finish is perfect I found your email of October 2010 (see below and attached photo). Are the chairs still available? Are they unfinished so that they could be finished to match the table?

If the chairs are available could you send me the dimensions of both the arm chair and the side chair including height, width, depth, seat height and height of the arm (on the arm chair)? And also the cost of each?

We would be interested in 12 chairs I think.

Hope you are staying warm and enjoying the last days of January.

  • We have now had a dining room table and four stools constructed by you and are so pleased that we thought we would ask about a third piece of furniture. My husband and I found something on line that is virtually perfect for the space and purpose we need it for. We would love to hear whether or not you could make something similar – not exact – and if we gave you a better idea of exactly what we wanted, how much it would cost. We would much prefer to buy it from you. The link to the piece is below.

  • Jane, the entire kitchen and especially the workstation was a hit! I predict at least 1 of my sisters is going to be calling on you in the near future. And, I think also she is planning on a new addition with larger kitchen/dining room too! And, when my other sis n law sees it; she too will do the same. Although, she has a new kitchen. She is gonna want a custom made piece. I appreciate your product, professionalism and concern for my need. Sincerely, Shannon Lurkins.

  • The tables and chairs arrived today (2/10/11) and they are fantastic!!! Can't say enough about the trestle table. It's just what my wife and I wanted... It has been a pleasure dealing with you, and I will try to emulate your service at my own business.
I want to briefly mention a minor hiccup with the installation. The gentlemen sent to deliver and assemble the table mistakenly used one of the 2 1/2" screws (for trestle mount) to attach the support base to the tabletop and in doing so screwed up and through the tabletop driving a hole through and very small fragment/splinter from the table face. I recognized it and the gentlemen backed the screw out and replaced it with the correct 1 3/4" screw from your installation plans. I actually think it adds to the story behind this table and in no way diminishes from the charm of this "rustic farm table" I have not contacted John as I am overall very happy your product and service; but mention this so that the different sized screws for installation may be clearly separated for their individual purpose at installation (if they're not already....).
I want to thank you again for everything and I will certainly keep you in mind with my future decorating plans....

  • Chris and I want you to know that the table exceeds our expectations. We are so pleased. When I used that exact quote of exceeding my expectations to my mother she said "Megan nothing ever exceeds your expectations." So that should tell you how much we love it.
The movers were fantastic, thank you for recommending them.
I will send picture separately, but it's hard to see with the sun in the background.
Thank you again we could not be happier.

    Take care,

color is the perfect match for my Syrian antique chest and ALL the
elements you helped me resolve: oak vs pine, wide plansk, breadboard
ends, especially the legs, just have it fit in that space like it's
meant to be. The extensions are so beautifully executed...the
craftsmanship of all of it are beautifully detailed. Who'd have thought

  • Dear Chris, I just
wanted to drop you a note to tell you how beautiful the table and
chairs are! The table is gorgeous, and is the perfect size for the
kitchen. The chairs came out beautifully as well. Jim, Jamie and I are

order a couple of extra side chairs. Do you keep the information on file
about the rub through color, so we could order those in, say, a year?
